Over the years, many weird laws have been exaggerated, repealed or are out- dated, so we’ve created this handy infographic of 8 bizarre laws, and what they really mean, using information from Britain Explorer to help you out. You might be surprised at the results! Well, not quite. Actually, it’s illegal for the keeper of a place of public resort to permit drunkenness in the house. Basically, you’re allowed to get drunk in the pub – it’s the owner who is breaking the law! Again, this isn’t quite true. An employer may say whatever they like on a reference, but if it’s nega- tive then they must be prepared to defend it in court – an employee can sue for defamation or libel. Therefore, employers usually choose to go with ‘If you haven’t got anything nice to say, say nothing at all!’ IT IS employer illegal illegal illegal legally TO BE TO TO BE AN DRUNK DRUNK POLISH POTATOES bad reference IMPORT QUEUE IN A PUB IN CHARGE OF isn’t give a ! This is true, except it also includes horses and steam engines. Don’t drink and herd! In Scotland IT IS & a COW This is apparently to stop the spread of ‘Ring Rot’. It’s illegal, under the terms of the Polish Potatoes (Notification) in England Order, 2004 It’s illegal IN LONDON IT’S illegal TO SOUND YOUR CAR HORN ALLOWED TO into ENGLAND In typical British fashion Any person directed by notice or authorised person to queue must join the back. IT’S illegalIT’S TO TO IN THEJUMP TUBE TICKET HALL In the Metropolitan Police District... by ringing their doorbells or knocking at their doors (i.e. Knock Knock Run). wilfully disturb people - or any other notifiable disease – unless you tell the driver first. In which case, the driver may still agree (as long as they disinfect the taxi afterwards). TO FLAG A TAXI IF YOU (knowingly) HAVE THE PLAGUE A fairly standard yet little abided by law is that... for any other reason than to warn someone of danger. That means NOT beeping at people who cut you up at the roundabout. Are you GUILTY of any of these? Why not let us know on one of our social platforms?

INFOGRAPHICS: The Good and The Bad

  • 1. INFOGRAPHICS T H E G O O D A N D T H E B A D
  • 2. SO WHAT? A lot has been said about how infographics are helpful when it comes to content marketing. But do you know the difference between an effective infographic and an ineffective one?
  • 3. WHY INFOGRAPHICS? and content with images get nearly double the views of content without images. The human brain is able to consume visual content times faster than text... 60,000
  • 4. WHY NOT JUST PHOTOS? Photos can't translate statistical facts or explain a concept as quickly as an infographic. Fourth graders unable to say why Abraham Lincoln was an important person. 20% Source: http://nation.foxnews.com/american- history/2011/06/15/american-students-failing- history-cant-say-what-lincoln-did
  • 5. THE BAD Infographics are more than just pretty. They need to deliver the message of the data in a concise way. What are some of the worst "sins" when it comes to infographics?
  • 6. Too much data. It becomes difficult to focus attention and can turn off users looking for comparative information.
  • 7. Unnecessary 3D. 3D may look cool, but can distort the way data needs to be represented.
  • 8. Graphs that just don't add up. Don't try to combine different statistics into one graph. (In this example it adds up to a 243% baby boomer.)
  • 9. Keep it simple. Viewers should be able to understand the information presented within a single reading.
  • 10. THE GOOD Once you know the story your infographic is telling, this story should be the focus of your art. Here are some excellent examples and tips to get your data across in an easy to understand way.
  • 11. Use pictures and icons. Avoid text overload or pictures with too much detail.
  • 12. Cartesian graphs are better. Radial charts may look cooler, but Cartesian graphs (Bar charts, Column charts) display multiple data sets much quicker and easier. Definition: A Cartesian graph is created by drawing a horizontal x-axis, and a vertical number y-axis.
  • 13. Keep the design clean with enough space between data.
  • 14. Use a simple color scheme.
  • 15. Use motifs that relate to your subject and its data. (In this case we talk about "traffic.")   Keep your design consistent with your subject.
  • 16. Keep in mind that the associated article should not be redundant in terms of repeating the information presented in the infographic, but should instead serve as a supplement.   Include a relevant article with your infographic.

#Design-6 Reasons Technophiles Make Better Graphic Designers

6 Reasons Technophiles Make Better Graphic Designers

Technophilia refers to a strong enthusiasm for technology, especially new technologies such. Technophiles are individuals who are enthusiastic about technology and view technology's interaction with society as creating an utopia, cyber or otherwise, and a strong indescribable futuristic feeling.

We're all technophiles in that matter. But Graphic Designers, who are often needed to juggle between different tasks, are bound to love tech. Technology gives them the power to take on and succeed as they grow more and more into design. Here are 6 compelling reasons why technophiles make better designers.

Enjoy the read and do tell us if you agree!

  • 1. 6 Reasons Technophiles Make Better Graphic Designers
  • 2. Who Are Technophiles? Technophilia refers generally to a strong enthusiasm for technology, especially new technologies such. The term, Technophiles, is used for a person who is enthusiastic about new technologies. Technophiles view technology's interaction with society as creating an utopia, cyber or otherwise, and a strong indescribable futuristic feeling.
  • 3. Technophile vs. Technophobe Technophile regards most or all technology positively. They enjoy using tech and focus on the egocentric benefits. Technophobe are fearful of advanced technologies. Technophobia becomes more complex as technology continues to evolve.
  • 4. Let’s see why technophiles are potentially more savvy when it comes to design…
  • 5. Graphic Designers are free spirits: 1 of every 4 designers is self-employed.
  • 6. Technology facilitates self-paced design environment. There's a battle that every freelance graphic designer struggles with and that is procrastination. Designers are often hesitant to admit, or even realize, that we they have put off something that they should have done a long time back or should be doing right now. In time such as these, technology comes to the rescue. It helps designers overcome procrastination and streamlines communication and collaboration with clients to make it easier to work in a freelance setting.
  • 7. Graphic Designers Learn At Their Own Pace: “While my education life gave a great start, I feel most of my skills have been self taught through experimentation and following the work and tutorials of others.” says, Chris Spooner.
  • 8. Technology keeps designers in the know. The real world is the best classroom for designers. Graphic designers tend to learn better under real-world constraints such as business interest, competitor evaluation and market prospect, rather than in an isolated classroom environment. But how these designers get their inspiration from or where do they find those all those tutorials, etc.? Yes, tech again is the answer. Technology is what keeps these designers updated and provides them access to the information they need.
  • 9. Graphic Designers Are Multitasker: 25% of self-employed full or part time designers also hold an additional salaried job in design or in another occupation.
  • 10. Technology gets designers tied to their work. Designers often juggle between multiple projects at a time. But juggling too many tasks without forethought can lead to needless stress and productivity loss. Multitasking is a misnomer. It calls for efficiency that is usually beyond human capacity. Technology keeps designers tied to their work. It keeps them connected on the go, helping them do more in less time and simplifies what’s on their plate and the order in which each task must be accomplished.
  • 11. Graphic Design Is A Competitive Marketplace: The Forecast of graphic designers working in the United States is 323,100 in 2018, compared to 192,240 in 2008.
  • 12. Technology helps designers evolve and adapt quickly. Graphic design jobs, be it full time or part time, have intense competition. The good news is that there's still plentiful opportunities to propagate and thrive in the market place with the job prospect growing. The question is how to stand out of the competition? Technology is the answer. Because of the competitive nature of job, graphic designers with creditable knowledge of design software and tech to automate and compliment design will have the best chance of success.
  • 13. Graphic Design Is Always Evolving: 10x Mobile growth translates into responsive design. Emergence of material design. Flat vs. Real: Which way to go?
  • 14. Technology is superb at keeping up with industry happenings. Graphic design is a broad and multifaceted ground. There are various arenas in which graphic designers specialize and there are others that are sprouting unceasingly due to unanimous growth in business demand and changing graphic design trends. From mobile to cloud, technology is at the core of emerging design trends. And those who are responsive to technological happenings stand a better chance all the way. Because it is easier for them to perceive and adapt according to new design standards.
  • 15. Techies Are More Savvy With Graphic Design Tools: The chart, based on Smart Press research, shows how a panel of graphic designers ranked several of the most popular design programs.
  • 16. Technology is everywhere. Choosing the right set of design tool is vital to the success of a graphic design project. Consequently, graphic designers have to progressively invest in new technologies, both hardware and software, to stay up and ahead in the game. Not liking tech is no option though. Therefore, a graphic design must be tech savvy to know how to maximize their budget and choose technology that moves them forward and gives desired competitive advantage.
